Over the years, I learned another little handy trick that seems to help when it comes to saving money on parts for my car. You know all of those old "buy here, pay here" car lots? Well, if you run into one that is locally owned, you may get a little deal on any spare parts that they have laying around. Many times, these spare parts are just lying around and cannot be used for anything in the lot. The owners of these little side car dealerships love to make a fast buck and are often more than willing to part with a few vehicle parts to make some fast cash.

If you have never been to your local center, you may be missing out. You might often throw certain things away that could be turned in at this facility. Consider taking your children or a class of children to this location. This is something that you may want to call ahead about, depending on the size of the group. While there might be safety limitations to where the kids can go and what they can see, it might be an interesting experience for them. Besides just talking about how things are reused, they can actually see how it works.
Now you can easily see the item that provides the biggest money in CRT monitors, the copper yoke. These are very easy to remove. There will be two ring collars around the tube above the yoke that are held on with screws. Simply take those screws loose and remove the collars. At this point you should grab the yoke and twist. The adhesive that is holding the yoke will come loose and the yoke can then be slipped off of the tube. Set this aside for later disassembly.

So kudos to the copper clown. Maybe there is a lesson here. Maybe more cops should walk around in various disguises like clowns, apes, chickens, and other costumes. Maybe the thugs, flash mobs, teens, and other street denizens of the urban junkyard called Chicago would be humiliated.
It is illegal to just dump your vehicle on the side of the road. If you do a police officer will look up who the vehicle is registered to and send them a fine. It can be several hundred dollars.

If the vehicle is in working you could drive it to the scrap dealer or have it recovered there. Otherwise if this isn't feasible then the you could contact them and the scrap yard will come and collect it.

You must pass a rigorous testing program before getting paid. A paid donor must be at least 6' tall, healthy, and have a high IQ. You must also have exceptional sperm. That rules me out!

Let me say that recycling isn't going to make you rich. It will put a few dollars in your hands for gas, lunch or possibly an evening out. But if you do your recycling right it won't cost you anything (except gas) to make the extra money.
I decided to do a small experiment. I collected two boxes of motherboards and listed one on eBay and sent the other to one of those places online. About a week later I had a check from the website for $7.50 for 25 pounds of motherboards and a PayPal payment from a buyer on eBay for $600 for 25 pounds of motherboards.
Another friend who turned 55 promptly enrolled in a doctoral program. For years he had wanted to continue his studies beyond his master's degree. At 55 he concluded it was time! Learning and living go together.
